A new program launched by HOBY, the Advanced Leadership Academy is open to High School Juniors and Seniors (ages 16-18) seeking advanced skills in transformational leadership . The program explores the dimensions of Social Change Leadership, challenging participants to develop action plans for the future. Unlike any other youth leadership opportunity available, participants leave the ALA with the skills and tools required to implement community change upon successful completion. Furthermore, participants receive further support after their attendance via monthly conference and resource sharing through ALA Ning Site – a closed social network open to ALA participants.
ALA provides more than just a 5 day seminar, but a lifelong resource for our future leaders.
Applicants should remember the following:
- Anyone can apply for the Advanced Leadership Academy, students are not required to have attended previous HOBY seminars
- The program utilizes the college text: Leadership for a Better World: Understanding the Social Change Model of Leadership Development throughout the seminar
- The program is available to all United States and Canadian citizens
“The HOBY Advanced Leadership Academy was an incredibly powerful experience. The seminar focused on teaching students how to create a useful and effective action plan alongside further developing their leadership skills, and it definitely succeeded. I left feeling more confident about my leadership abilities than ever before, as well as having a concrete action plan for a service project I am incredibly passionate about. Overall, I am so glad that I was able to attend the Advanced Leadership Academy, and I encourage those who want to learn how to make a change in the world to take part in this fantastic leadership experience.”
